Holomic LLC has been selected as a finalist for the 2014 Prism Awards for Photonics Innovation, a leading international competition that honors the best new photonic products on the market.
Sometimes referred to as the ‘Photonics Oscar’, the Prism Awards have received entries from more than 35 countries globally that represent the best in photonics technology. Companies are judged by a panel of leading industry experts, venture capitalists, and other luminaries and visionaries. The awards are a collaboration between SPIE (the international society for optics and photonics) and Photonics Media.
Holomic has been selected as a finalist in the category of life sciences and biophotonics with its recently launched rapid diagnostic test reader the HRDR-200. The Smartphone based quantitative, universal handheld reader is positioned to significantly influence the global point-of-care market by enabling more reliable quantitative lateral flow immunoassay tests, instant access to electronic health records, and real-time, wide-area diagnostic data collection; ideal for point-of-care, telemedicine, and public health monitoring. The HRDR-200 is the first commercially launched product from Holomic from its array of biophotonics based technologies emerging from the lab of Dr. Aydogan Ozcan at UCLA who commented, “We are surrounded by digital technologies that are ubiquitous, and yet extremely advanced in terms of their electrical, optical and mechanical components, computational power and connectivity. The Holomic team and its core technologies and products, including the cellphone based diagnostic readers are uniquely suited to harness all these existing digital infrastructure, empowering point of care offices and even homes with a suite of technologies that used to exist only in advanced laboratories. This is just the beginning of a revolution that we will experience around healthcare, where Holomic will have significant contributions to”.
This nomination comes in addition to both the Nokia Sensing X Prize as well as the Katerva Awards, both of which Holomic was nominated for as a finalist in the past year. Dr. Karlovac, the CEO of Holomic LLC said, “In developing the HRDR-200 we aimed to combine advanced photonics with smartphone technology to produce a best performing diagnostic instrument at a price point significantly lower than anything else available on the market, and we are honored to be selected as a finalist for the PRISM award”.
The awards will take place in conjunction with the SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco, California to be held in February 2014. For more information see http://www.photonicsprismaward.com/finalists.aspx
Holomic LLC holomic.com was formed in 2011 to commercialize advanced BioPhotonics technologies invented at the world-renowned research laboratory of Professor Aydogan Ozcan at UCLA. The technologies include rapid diagnostic test readout; lens free holographic and tomographic microscopy; brightfield and fluorescent microscopy; and flow cytometry. The common thread is cost-effective implementations on cellphones or other lightweight portable platforms for applications in medical diagnostics and environmental monitoring.
